What a horrible name - haha. Until I can think of something better, Blog Watch will have to do!

So, we’ve had a few mentions on some blogs, and I wanted to give a little love back to them!

T-Shirts Around the Internet was the first to blog about us, and they found us before we even got a chance to contact them! They showed some love for Aqua Lion:
http://t-shirts-around.blogspot.com/2009/04/aqua-lion-and-other-shirts-by-full.html

Tee Hunter piped in with more love for Aqua Lion, and even featured it in a screenshot celebrating their 100th post!

http://teehunter.com/2009/04/100th-post-a-massive-thank-you/

The inimitable MJ gave us and Aqua Lion some love on her side project site, Tee Magnet:
http://www.teemagnet.com/?p=80

And MJ, being the awesome person she is, was nice enough to post about us again on compete-tee-tion. We even held a contest for a free shirt:

I Love Your T-shirt gave us a nice overview post:

And The Awesomer (one of the coolest blog names ever) posted about Through the Glass:

Some amazing blogs, and wonderful folks. I hope to post many more of these, to bring some attention back to the bloggers who helped spread the word. Thanks, all! :D

FMT Interviews Dale Edwin Murray - Masters Series Artist!
By: Aubrey
On: Apr. 21st

The next in our Interview series is Dale Edwin Murray, a fantastic artist, all-round good guy, and the designer of Splash!

FMT: What’s your favorite kind of food?

Dale: Thai and I also love Indian - I live just off Brick Lane in East London which is famous for it’s Indian restaurants.

FMT: When did you start designing?

Dale: I’ve been doodling ever since I was a kid but I guess I have been designing professionally for the past 3 years.

FMT: If you were a Star Wars character, who would you be?

Dale: Boba Fett - best costume ever.

FMT: What artists inspire you?

Dale: Geoff Mcfetridge, Ryan McGinley, Edward Hopper, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Margaret Kilgallen, James Jarvis, Barry McGee.

FMT: You just won a carnival game! What kind of prize do you pick from the top shelf?

Dale: Hurrah! It would have to be a large stuffed animal for my fiancee. I’m a soppy b*st*rd!

FMT: Is there any symbolic imagery that you use frequently in your art?

Dale: I’m not really sure why buy I find myself drawing bones and knives all the time. I’m beginning to worry what that might say about my subconscious!

FMT: How many shirts do you own?

Dale: Oh my god I’ve got loads - I’m actually about to put a load on ebay because I have run out of closet space.

FMT: What advice can you give to artists just starting out?

Dale: Stick to your own style but study what makes successful designers successful and try and learn from it. Be passionate about what you’re doing and despite the fierce competition out there you will be able to carve a niche for yourself. If you’ve not passionate about it, then quit and do something else.

FMT: You’re from London. Have you ever seen a guard at Buckingham Palace crack a smile?

Dale: No. I’m a staunch anti-royalist so I have always stayed clear of that house of horrors. I mean, the whole notion of a pluralistic democracy is just a nonsense……don’t get me started!!

FMT: What’s one thing about you that no one else knows?

Dale: Ah, now that would be telling……

You can see more of Dale’s fantastic art on http://www.daleedwinmurray.com/

Dale, the next time I eat Thai, I’m thinking of you!

FMT Interviews Liviu Matei - Guild Contest Winner!
By: Aubrey

We just had the pleasure of interviewing Liviu Matei, the very first winner of our weekly contest! Check out Aqua Lion here!

FMT: What’s your favorite kind of food?

Liviu: I love food, i don’t have one favorite kind…let’s just say i love specialties. And i’m a sucker for pizza, no matter how full, i always find some space for a slice of pizza.

FMT: When did you start designing?

Liviu: Tough question. I guess I can say i started doing it when the other kids were playing games and i was installing trial versions of Photoshop and trying to scan my drawings and bring some color into them. That was about 7-8 years ago. But that was just learning- i had no idea that i was going to progress enough to do this for money.I started taking things seriously and doing client work about a year and a half ago…so i guess you could mark that as the time when i started doing it. Also, you could say i took it to another level since i quit my day job and started freelancing full-time this year in February.

FMT: If you were a Star Wars character, who would you be?

Liviu: Han Solo…I wish. He gets the girl maaan! And he saves the universe? Without being a Jedi? Now, that’s manly!

Sadly, i took one of those personality tests and it came out as Palpatine…why, i don’t know…must have been broken!

FMT: What artists inspire you?

Liviu: So many of them..actually almost any artist i see inspires me one way or the other, in terms of art, or in terms of morals, or in terms of what not to do…
I’ll throw some names just as examples. All you artists reading this, you should know that if i ever commented on your work, you are most likely an inspiration to me! People who extra-helped me and were role-models: Jimmy Benedict (Jimiyo), Nick S. (Heavyprints), Godmachine-they were the ones willing to spend time chatting with me a lot, critique me, etc.

FMT: You just won a carnival game! What kind of prize do you pick from the top shelf?

Liviu: Either the big fluffy thing for my girlfriend, if she’s around, or the coupons for free drinks (yeah, they should put those as prizes at your carnival, else I won’t enter the contest:P)

FMT: Is there any symbolic imagery that you use frequently in your art?

Liviu: I noticed I use eyes a lot. And that I am one of the 2312494329384 guys who do that..sad to be a walking cliche, but I can’t help it! If I notice anything else I’ll let you know!

FMT: How many shirts do you own?

Liviu: I won’t go count them, because I don’t have all of them with me:P. Let’s just say that it has become quite an addiction ever since i started working in the apparel design industry, and i have to get at least on or two every month. I can also say that i have over 12 tees i absolutely love! Also, i blame my girlfriend who used buy me tees as gifts…now she doesn’t do it anymore because she’s jealous of the impressive numbers and quality of my newly acquisitioned shirts!

FMT: What advice can you give to artists just starting out?

Liviu: From where I’m looking, I still feel like i’m just starting out..but to those who are even more un-experienced than me: Keep at it! Learn as much as you can about what you want to do, work hard to improve, and never give up. Also, askin for advice from people who have more experience will always pay out!

FMT: You’re from Romania. Have you ever visited Vlad Dracula’s castle? (We’re jealous, if so)

Liviu: Yes, but it has been quite some time ago, and i was a stupid teenager who only cared about getting out of there and going to buy something to eat:P. Partly joking, of course, but I feel like I need to visit it again now, as a graduate of Literature who learned a few things about the whole thing. If you guys want to tag along, let me know!

FMT: What’s one thing about you that no one else knows?

Liviu: Trust me, if no one else knows, that’s for a reason, mwuahaha! Guess people don’t know that I draw naked. Oh really, you believed that? Wow!

———

Check out more about Liviu on his site: www.liviumatei.com

Oh, and Liviu, if we can ever make it out to Romania, we’re absolutely going to take you up on the offer to visit Castle Dracula!  :D

Press Release: Full Metal T-Shirt Creates New, Artist-Focused, T-Shirt Design Contest Website

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Full Metal T-Shirt Creates New, Artist-Focused, T-Shirt Design Contest Website

California, March 30, 2009 - This! Enterprises, Inc. launches FullMetalTshirt.com (FMT), an ongoing t-shirt design contest. FMT focuses on the artist and their submission, offering the most aggressive residual package of any similar design contest. Their state of the art Direct-To-Garment (DTG) printing process allows FMT to achieve results that can’t be met with other forms of printing.

Artists who win FMT’s perpetual contest receive $100 cash, $100 credit, one free copy of their shirt, and a $5 residual per shirt or art print sold on FMT, for an entire year.

“We put a lot of thought into our contest winnings,” says Aubrey Erickson, the head of FMT, “to make sure that artists have the capability to earn a generous (and continuous) income from their designs. It helps keep them involved with the community in the long term, too. In the end, the goal is for everyone to enjoy the benefits together.”

DTG printing is revolutionizing the custom apparel industry. With full spectrum color and full gradient fades, on any color shirt, the limitations of traditional of apparel decoration have been removed. Each one of FMT’s shirts are printed to order, on-demand. They can easily print up to 16″ x 20″ images. With a specially modified shirt board, they can print up to 17″ x 45″.

FMT researched their choice of shirt brand extensively. They have chosen Alstyle for the following reasons: The shirts are made sweatshop-free. For Gents, the Alstyle AAA 1701 t-shirt is made of 100% ringspun cotton; super soft, preshrunk, full length. For Ladies, the Alstyle AAA 2517 t-shirt uses the same 100% ringspun cotton fabric as the 1701, with a more stylish sleeve cut and more form-fitting torso.

For additional information on Full Metal T-Shirt, contact Aubrey Erickson or visit www.fullmetaltshirt.com.
